On Wednesday night, the White House suspended Jim Acosta’s press pass “until further notice” after the hectic encounter the reporter had with President Trump during the press conference held the morning after the midterm elections.
Jim Acosta twitted and shared a video of the Security Service taking away his credential and “hard pass” for the White House.
Oliver Knox, the White House Correspondents Association President, wrote an announcement after the event in full support of Jim Acosta and calling it a reaction “out of line” as well as a call to the White House to immediately revoke the action.
Fundamedios USA condemns the actions taken by the White House against CNN correspondent, Jim Acosta, after the hectic incident between the reporter and President Donald Trump during the press conference held the morning after the midterm elections.
It is very serious when a President disqualifies the independent press, but the attack is greater when it is personalized to one reporter as it turns him into a target for attacks from the supporter of those who lead not only a party but a nation which give these kind of words and attacks a greater weight.
We join the voices like the other Correspondents facing the White House who call for an immediate restitution of the press credential and access to the White House for Jim Acosta.
Finally, we cannot fail to mention the fact that President Trump’s behavior undermines the long tradition of respect to the freedom of press in the United States and it is dangerously similar to the attitudes we have seen recently in Latin America Populist leaders that have led their countries to the verge of democracy.

Fundamedios pide a la Casa Blanca restituir credencial a Jim Acosta, corresponsal de CNN
El miércoles 7 de noviembre, la Casa Blanca suspendió las credenciales de prensa y acceso a Jim Acosta “hasta próximo aviso”. La decisión se anunció tras el “tenso” encuentro entre el reportero y el presidente Donald Trump, durante la conferencia de prensa sostenido tras la jornada elecciones de medio término.
La noche del miércoles Acosta tuiteó y compartió un video del servicio de seguridad, en donde le quitan sus credenciales y pase de acceso a la Casa Blanca. El presidente de la Asociación de Corresponsales de la Casa Blanca, Oliver Knox, escribió un anuncio de apoyo al periodista y calificando la reacción como “fuera de línea”. También hizo un llamado oficial a que se restituyan inmediatamente las credenciales.
Fundamedios USA condena las acciones tomadas por la Casa Blanca en contra de Jim Acosta, corresponsal de CNN. Es muy grave cuando un Presidente descalifica a la prensa independiente, pero es inclusive más grave cuando desacredita a un reportero, ya que lo convierte en un objetivo de ataque para los para los partidarios de quienes lideran, no sólo un partido, sino una nación.
Unimos nuestra voz a la de los corresponsales que enfrentan a la Casa Blanca y han hecho un llamado a una restitución inmediata de las credenciales y accesos para Acosta.
Finalmente, no podemos dejar de mencionar que el comportamiento del presidente Trump socava la larga tradición de respeto a la libertad de prensa en los Estados Unidos; y es peligrosamente similar a las actitudes que recientemente se han visto en líderes populistas de América Latina.
